Apple announced its first foldable, the iPhone Duo, on September 9. The spec sheet gives you three numbers for each state, but numbers on a page are not the same as a phone in your hand. Here is every dimension, what it compares to, and two free ways to see it at real size before pre-orders open October 16.
The dimensions
- Closed: 84.1 mm wide, 117.8 mm tall, 11.3 mm thick. Outer screen 5.4 inches.
- Open: 164.6 mm wide, 117.8 mm tall, 5.2 mm thick. Inner screen 7.6 inches.
- Weight: 254 g, in either state.
Those are Apple's published figures. Nothing below is a guess.
Closed: shorter and wider than any iPhone
Every current iPhone is a tall rectangle. Closed, the foldable is a short one. At 117.8 mm it is about 32 mm shorter than an iPhone 17 and 46 mm shorter than a 17 Pro Max. But at 84.1 mm wide it is wider than every iPhone Apple sells, including the Pro Max at 78.0 mm. The nearest everyday object is a passport, which is 88 mm by 125 mm. Picture a passport that is a little smaller in both directions and about the thickness of two credit cards' worth of Pro Max stacked on itself.
The thickness is the number to sit with. At 11.3 mm closed it is 2.5 mm thicker than a 17 Pro, 3.4 mm thicker than an iPhone 17, and thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (8.9 mm) and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold (10.8 mm). It is the thickest iPhone Apple has ever shipped.
Open: a small tablet, not a big phone
Open, it turns into a 164.6 mm by 117.8 mm slab. That is wider than an iPhone 17 Pro Max is tall, and about the footprint of a paperback book. At 5.2 mm each half is thinner than the iPhone Air. The inner screen is 7.6 inches, which puts it in iPad mini territory for reading and video, and squarely in two-hands territory for typing.
Weight: the heaviest iPhone
254 g is 5 g more than the iPhone 18 Pro Max and 77 g more than an iPhone 17. Compared with other foldables it is 39 g heavier than a Galaxy Z Fold 7 and a few grams lighter than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
